Loose leaf tea by weight
You walk in, tell us what you feel like drinking — and we weigh out exactly as much as you need. Ten grams to try it. A hundred once it becomes your favourite.
No boxes, no six-month supply, no paying for packaging. This is how tea is bought in China — and how we sell it at al. Grunwaldzka 69 in Gdańsk.
Why buy tea by weight?
Because tea doesn’t like to wait. An opened pack holds its aroma for weeks, not years — and most of us finish the bag long after the pleasure is gone. What remains is the habit: “there’s tea in the cupboard”, even though it stopped tasting of anything a while ago.
Buying by weight, you take only what you’ll actually drink soon. Always fresh. And you can always come back for more — we’re just around the corner.
From 10 grams — just enough to try
Ten grams is a few brews. Enough to decide, calmly, whether this tea is for you — without a hundred grams of a wrong guess living in your kitchen for years.
Prices start at 0.87 zł per gram, so discovering a new flavour costs less than a coffee in town. And if you want to compare two teas side by side — take ten grams of each. There is no better way to taste the difference.
Where to start?
If most of your tea so far has come from a teabag, start with something gentle — and give yourself a few tries. We’ll happily help you choose in the shop, but here’s a short map:
- White — the most delicate, slightly sweet, forgiving when the brewing goes wrong. A good first step.
- Green — fresh and grassy, brisk. Happier with water a little cooler than boiling.
- Yellow — rare and mellow, for the curious. In China it’s considered a connoisseur’s tea.
- Black (Hong Cha) — stronger, malty, with a note of dried fruit. The closest to what Europe knows as tea.
- Dark (Hei Cha) — aged for years, deep and earthy. For those after something completely different.
- Scented — jasmine and rose, carried onto the leaves naturally. A gentle way into the world of tea.
How to store it so it keeps its flavour
Tea is afraid of four things: light, moisture, heat and other smells. Move it into an airtight, opaque container and keep it away from coffee, spices and the stove. Not in the fridge — condensation will get to it there.
Green and white teas are at their best within a year, while they’re freshest. Dark teas can wait as long as they like — time only makes them better.
Come by, or order to your door
Coming in is best. You can smell the leaves before you buy, ask us anything and leave with a precisely weighed portion. You’ll find us at al. Grunwaldzka 69 in Gdańsk, Monday to Friday, 10:00–18:00. Pickup costs nothing.
If you’d rather order — we ship to InPost parcel lockers (14.99 zł) or by courier (19.99 zł), and orders over 150 zł ship free. We pack on the day we weigh.
Frequently asked questions
How much is 10 grams of tea?
A few brews — the exact number depends on the tea and on how strong you like it. Enough to get to know the flavour and decide whether you want more.
Can I buy small amounts of several teas?
Of course — that’s what most of our customers do. Ten grams each of a few different teas is the best way to find yours.
Is tea sold by weight actually fresh?
That’s the whole point. We keep the leaves in airtight containers and weigh them in front of you — they don’t sit for months in a foil pack on a shelf.
Will you help me choose?
That’s what we’re here for. Tell us what you usually drink and what you’re looking for — stronger, gentler, something entirely new — and we’ll find something for you.
